The Direct Connect Telephone Record Device (model TRX-20) connects a telephone line to a tape recorder so you can record both sides of a phone call. It is a simple plug-in adapter for analog recording systems, and it works with any mini, micro or standard cassette recorder that has a microphone input.
Key specifications
- For analog recording systems only
- Records both ends of a conversation
- Works with mini, micro and standard cassette recorders
- Easy plug-in design
Will it work with my phone?
This adapter is for analog telephone lines, the traditional landline kind. It will not connect to a mobile phone, and most digital office phone systems and internet (VoIP) phones need a different adapter. If you are not sure what kind of line you have, call us before ordering and we will help you choose.
Setting it up
- Connect the adapter between the telephone line and the phone, then plug its lead into the recorder’s microphone input.
- Make a short test call and play it back to check both voices are recorded clearly.
- Label each tape with the date and the number called as soon as you finish.
Recording law, in plain terms
Arizona is a one-party consent state (A.R.S. § 13-3005): you may record a conversation you are part of, or one where a participant has agreed. Federal law follows the same rule. Several states require every party to agree, including California, Florida, Washington, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Massachusetts, and a call between two states can bring the stricter rule into play. Recording a conversation you are not part of, without consent, is a crime almost everywhere. This is general information, not legal advice; if a recording may end up in court, speak to an attorney first.
Keeping recordings usable
Keep the original tape, write-protect it by removing the tab, and make copies to listen to. If a call recording may be needed as evidence, our digital forensics team can digitise and preserve it with a documented chain of custody.
