To refer — no. To deliver investigative or forensic work as a partner, you’ll generally need the appropriate license, which we verify during onboarding. White-label partners deliver through our licensed capability.
Everything is delivered under Honeybadger, so the client has one trusted name and one point of contact — white-label partners are the exception and deliver under their own brand by agreement.
On a clear, agreed schedule once the engagement is paid, by your preferred method. Rates and timing are set in your agreement so there are no surprises.
Making a good referral
What a strong handoff looks like.
The best referrals are warm, well-timed and respectful of the client’s privacy. A little preparation helps the person you are referring get help faster and keeps you out of details you do not need to carry.
- Ask first. Get the person’s permission before sharing their name or contact details. People dealing with fraud, a breach or a family matter are often sensitive about who knows.
- Share the outline, not the file. A sentence on the type of problem is enough, such as a suspected email compromise or a need for private investigation support. Let the client share the specifics directly with us.
- Flag urgency. If evidence may be lost, a device is about to be wiped or a threat is active, say so. Time-sensitive matters, such as cyber incident response, are prioritized accordingly.
- Set expectations honestly. Avoid promising outcomes on our behalf. We scope every matter before committing to what can realistically be done.

Partners who deliver work are an extension of the client relationship, so a few standards apply to every engagement.
Confidentiality
Client information is handled on a need-to-know basis under written confidentiality terms, and it is not reused for your own marketing or other matters.
Evidence handling
Anything that may reach litigation is collected and documented with a defensible chain of custody, consistent with our digital forensics practices.
Conflicts
Before accepting a matter, check for conflicts with your existing clients and tell us promptly if one exists.
Lawful methods
Work is performed within the licensing and legal limits of the jurisdiction. If a request would cross a line, raise it rather than improvise.

Can attorneys or other regulated professionals take part?
Some professions have their own rules about referral relationships and payments. Requirements vary; confirm with your licensing body or counsel before accepting any compensation. This is not legal advice.
Do I need insurance to deliver work?
Delivery partners are typically asked about their insurance during onboarding, and requirements depend on the type of work. Referral-only participants are handled differently.
What if a referral is not a good fit?
We will tell the person honestly and, where we can, point them toward a more appropriate resource. Not every inquiry becomes an engagement.
What happens if a client I referred contacts you directly later?
Leads are logged to the referring partner when they arrive, so a later direct contact from the same client is still tied back to your referral under the terms of your agreement.
Can a partnership be ended?
Yes. Either side can step back under the terms of the written agreement, and any work already in progress is completed or transitioned so the client is not left without support.
