Knowing the limits
What open sources cannot tell you, and where errors creep in
Open-source work is powerful, but it has blind spots. A good report says plainly what could not be found or confirmed, so a decision is not built on an assumption.
Common names and mixed files
Two people with the same name and a similar age can end up merged in commercial databases. We tie findings to multiple identifiers before attributing a record to your subject.
Stale or scraped data
People-search sites often repeat old addresses and phone numbers long after they stop being accurate. These sites are treated as leads to verify, never as proof.
Records that are not public
Sealed and expunged matters, most juvenile records, private messages and protected financial data are outside what open sources can lawfully reach.
Uneven court coverage
Not every county or foreign jurisdiction puts its records online. Some searches require a request to the court clerk, which adds time.
Absence is not clearance
Finding nothing adverse is useful, but it is not the same as confirming that nothing exists. We report what was searched so you can judge how far a clean result goes.
Preservation
Capturing online content so it holds its value
Online content can be edited or deleted at any time, sometimes within hours of a dispute starting. How it is captured determines whether it can be relied on later.
- Capture in context. Pages and posts are saved with the full URL, date and time of capture, and enough surrounding content to show where the material appeared.
- Record how it was found. Search terms, source paths and the account used for viewing are noted so the steps can be explained or repeated.
- Preserve originals. Where possible, original media files are saved alongside screenshots, and captured files are hashed so later changes can be detected.
- Keep a clean log. Captures are logged in order and stored with restricted access, supporting later questions about authenticity.
