What an industrial post actually covers
Post orders are written per site, and the site walk includes the safety orientation, not just the security one. We record what is true: where vehicles and pedestrians conflict, which gates are used by whom and when, how scrap actually leaves the property, where the muster points are, what the shutdown schedule looks like, and which parts of the plant an officer should never enter without an escort.
A typical deployment covers gatehouse and vehicle access control including driver, load and seal verification; employee and contractor entry at shift change; truck and trailer check-in and check-out against paperwork; yard and perimeter patrol on varied timings with fence-line inspection; dock and dumpster observation during the hours material moves; contractor and vendor sign-in, badging and escort; after-hours and shutdown access control; alarm response; and support to your emergency plan including gate control and muster-point assistance during drills and real events.
Seal and paperwork verification at the gate is the highest-value routine task on an industrial site and the one most often performed as a formality. Done properly — seal number read and recorded against the manifest, discrepancy escalated rather than noted — it closes the route most bulk loss actually takes.
Safety, compliance and the frame around the post
An officer on a manufacturing site works inside your safety programme, not alongside it. That means site-specific orientation before the first shift, the personal protective equipment your site requires, awareness of lockout-tagout and restricted zones, and clear instruction on what to do rather than what to attempt. OSHA‘s General Duty Clause and the site’s own programme govern; where your site is subject to Process Safety Management, contractor requirements apply to us as they do to any other contractor, and we expect to meet them rather than be waved through.
Where the operation is subject to C-TPAT or a customer’s supply-chain security requirements, the guard force generates a meaningful share of the evidence: gate logs, seal verification records, visitor and contractor control, and documented perimeter inspection. We write those records to be produced in a validation, not reconstructed for one.
In Arizona, guard services are licensed under A.R.S. Title 32, Chapter 26. Honeybadger holds Security Guard Agency licence 1759798 and Private Investigations Agency licence 1759795. Our officers are not peace officers. They deny access under your authority, document, and call law enforcement. They do not search employees or their vehicles except where your policy provides for it as a condition of entry and the process has been agreed in writing.
Shutdowns, turnarounds and construction phases
Every industrial site has periods when its normal controls are deliberately suspended: a turnaround, a major maintenance window, a capital project inside the fence. Contractor headcount multiplies, gates that are normally closed are open for equipment, and the people on site are unfamiliar with the property and with each other. That is when material loss and access failures concentrate.
Surge coverage for those windows is scoped in advance rather than negotiated during them — additional gate control, dedicated contractor processing, laydown-yard coverage for staged material and equipment, and after-hours site control for the duration. Planned early it is a line item; called late it is a premium.
Where the investigations and cyber side comes in
Sustained industrial loss is almost never solved by more patrol, because sustained loss usually has help on the inside. It is solved by finding the route. That is investigative work: covert surveillance on the movement rather than the perimeter, documented internal investigation, and financial investigation where scrap proceeds, vendor invoices or inventory adjustments are involved.
The other exposure is operational technology. Plant networks, historians and controllers sit under managed cyber services, and where a device, badge system or workstation is part of an incident, digital forensics preserves it properly. Background and vendor screening runs through the same agency, which matters most for the contractors who get the deepest access with the least scrutiny.
How a programme is priced
Industrial posts are quoted per post, per hour. The drivers are hours and shift structure, gatehouse versus roving, armed or unarmed, and the qualifications the site requires — a post needing full site safety orientation and specific personal protective equipment costs more than a lobby, and should. Coverage timed to shift change, delivery windows and the hours material actually moves outperforms blanket coverage at the same spend.
Included rather than billed separately: site survey and safety orientation, post orders, gate and seal verification procedure, supervision, patrol and incident reporting, uniform and standard equipment, licensing and insurance. Quoted separately: shutdown and turnaround surge, laydown-yard coverage, investigative and forensic work, and any site-specific certification or equipment.
Frequently asked questions
Can your officers search employee vehicles at the gate?
Only where your policy establishes search as a condition of entry, the workforce has been notified, and the process is agreed in writing beforehand. Our officers hold no independent search authority, and an improvised search creates a bigger problem than the theft it was meant to catch.
Are your officers trained for a plant environment?
Yes — site-specific orientation before the first shift, your required personal protective equipment, and clear instruction on restricted zones and lockout-tagout areas. An officer who does not understand the hazards is a hazard.
We keep losing scrap and material. Will more patrol fix it?
Usually not. Sustained bulk loss almost always leaves through a legitimate door with legitimate paperwork. Tighten seal and manifest verification at the gate first, then investigate the route. We will say that even though the investigation bills differently from the extra shift.
Can you cover a shutdown or turnaround?

Will your records support a C-TPAT or customer audit?
Gate logs, seal verification records, visitor and contractor control and perimeter inspection reports are written to be produced as they are. Tell us at scoping which programme you are validated under and the records are structured to it from day one.
How does heat affect coverage?
It shapes the whole patrol plan — timing, rotation, water and shade, vehicle and equipment specification, and officer safety protocols. Any Arizona industrial proposal that does not address summer conditions was written for somewhere else.
