The threat picture, specifically
Industrial and manufacturing sites carry a risk profile that looks nothing like an office. The site is large, the perimeter is long, the yard holds material worth stealing in bulk, and the building runs shifts — which means the doors are opening at 2am and the workforce turning over at the gate is the largest uncontrolled population on the property.
Loss here is rarely a break-in. It is material walking out through a legitimate door. Scrap and metal theft, tooling, spare parts, fuel and copper move through gates, dumpsters, scrap contractors and the beds of vehicles that had a good reason to be there. Yard and trailer theft takes larger bites: a trailer moved from a yard at 3am is a six-figure event with a two-hour head start. Vendor and contractor churn keeps a stream of unfamiliar people on site with legitimate access, and during a shutdown or a construction phase that stream becomes a flood at exactly the moment normal controls are suspended for the work.
Then there is the part most guard proposals ignore: a manufacturing site is a hazardous environment, and the security officer is a person walking through it. Forklift traffic, energised equipment, confined spaces, chemical storage and lockout-tagout zones all mean an untrained officer is a hazard to themselves and a liability to you. Emergency response on an industrial site is also a security function — gate control during an evacuation, headcount support at muster points, and keeping the fire lane clear for people who need it.
Arizona adds the conditions. Sites sit on large parcels with long fence lines, often at the edge of the developed area with easy vehicle approach and slow law enforcement response. Summer heat governs patrol timing and officer safety in a way that has to be designed rather than endured.
