Uniform Style HG2 Multi-Threat Vest Level IIIA/HG2

The uniform shirt carrier exists for a specific problem: posts where visible armor is wrong but no armor is worse. Front desk, hospital security, court services, school resource, dispatch-facing roles, executive protection in business settings — anywhere the job requires Class A appearance and the risk assessment still says wear armor. This is an external carrier styled as a uniform shirt, so it reads as a shirt and carries SLD-HG2 panels, NIJ certified to the 0101.06 Level IIIA standard.

What the certification actually means

SLD-HG2 is NIJ certified to the 0101.06 Level IIIA standard. That word — certified — is doing real work. NIJ certification means the model was tested by an accredited laboratory against the standard’s specified threats and conditioning, including wet and environmentally aged samples, not simply that a manufacturer claims a level. Ask for it on any armor you buy, from anyone.

Level IIIA covers the common handgun threats up to .44 Magnum and 12-gauge slugs, plus strikes and slashes on this multi-threat panel. What it does not cover is rifle fire. Soft armor at any level is not rated for rifle rounds; that requires hard plates, and no amount of layering changes it. If your threat assessment includes rifles, this is not the product that addresses it.

Thinner and lighter is a wear-rate question

Built in Nevada from Honeywell®, Brookwood® and SAATI® materials, the HG2 panel is thinner and lighter than the previous generation. That matters more than it sounds like it should, because the failure mode for concealable armor is not ballistic — it is that a hot, bulky vest gets left in a locker on a twelve-hour shift. The armor that protects you is the armor you are actually wearing at hour ten.

Fit, which is a safety spec

A front panel should sit roughly two finger-widths below the sternal notch and end around the navel. Too high and the abdomen is exposed; too low and the upper chest is open while the panel digs into your hips every time you sit or drive. The side straps set the tension — snug enough that the panel does not shift when you move, not so tight that you loosen them by noon. Size over what you will actually wear underneath, including a duty belt.

Care and service life

Ballistic panels are manufacturer-dated and degrade with age, heat, moisture and repeated flexing. Store carriers flat rather than folded, keep armor out of a hot parked vehicle as routine practice, follow the maker’s cleaning instructions for the panels specifically — they are not a laundry item — and replace on the dated schedule rather than on how they look.

One legal note: under 18 U.S.C. § 931, possession of body armor by a person convicted of a violent felony is a federal offense, with a narrow employment exception; some states add further restrictions. Purchase is otherwise unrestricted for most people in most states.

What is included

One uniform shirt carrier with Level HG2 multi-threat ballistic panels, two uniform side straps, and one customizable name tag patch. Panels swap between Safe Life Defense carriers in seconds, so one set can move between this and an outer carrier. See soft armor vests and carriers for the range, and talk to us before outfitting a team — getting level and fit right matters more than the brand on the panel.
