The anti-fray hood is not a detail
A CAT tourniquet has an exposed hook-and-loop strap, and carried openly it catches everything — shirt hems, jacket linings, seat belts, gear it sits next to. Two consequences, both bad. The tourniquet gets dragged out of position, so it is not where you reach for it. And the hook loads up with fabric and thread, which is the part that has to grip when you actually apply it.
The hood covers that strap while the tourniquet sits in the pouch, then clears out of the way on the draw. It is the difference between a tourniquet that stays put and stays clean and one that quietly stops working properly in your pouch.
Where it goes, and why that is a decision
A tourniquet has to be reachable with either hand, because the injury may be to the arm you would normally use. Centreline or support-side placement is the usual answer, and mounting it front-and-centre where a magazine pouch would go is a deliberate trade many people should make: you reload more often in training, you apply a tourniquet once in a career, and only one of those is a bleed-out clock.
Whatever position you pick, use it in training. A pouch whose draw you have never practised is a pouch you will fumble.
Open top, and why there is no flap
No flap, no retention strap, nothing to defeat before you have the tourniquet in your hand — with adjustable tension holding it securely until you pull. Under stress, with one hand, possibly your weak one, every mechanism between you and the tourniquet is a place to fail. Tension does the retaining instead.
Mounting and build
Hyperlock™ attachment fits all MOLLE and slide-on systems, mounts without tools at a 0.03″ profile, and uses stainless hardware with thread locker so it is still tight a year later. Made in Henderson, Nevada. Belts carry a retail upcharge of $14 for 2XL and $24 for 3XL; patch customisation at retail cost.
Fits all CAT tourniquets — the tourniquet itself is bought separately. See gear and accessories, or the triple mag pouch on the same platform.
