The advantage nothing else gives you

Getting footage you can use

Look at what matters, and hold it. The habit that ruins glasses footage is glancing — your eyes flick across a scene several times a second and the camera follows, producing a frame nobody can watch. Deliberately rest your gaze on the subject for several seconds at a time.

Move your head slowly. Fast pans smear at any resolution. Turn at roughly half the speed that feels natural.

Mind the backlight. A subject standing in front of a window or a bright doorway becomes a silhouette. Position so the light falls on them rather than behind them — this single habit accounts for most unusable indoor footage.

Get closer than feels necessary. Faces and detail resolve with distance, fast. Ten feet away is a record that an interaction happened; four feet away is a record of who was in it.

Check before, offload after. Confirm charge and free memory before you walk in; USB transfer moves files off immediately afterward. Footage left on the device is footage that can be overwritten.

The legal frame, which is not optional

Arizona is a one-party consent state for audio under A.R.S. § 13-3005 — you may record a conversation you are a party to without informing the others. That is Arizona’s rule, not a national one. California, Florida, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Washington and others require every party to consent, and interstate conversations can pull the stricter rule in.

Video carries a separate constraint: there are places where a person has a reasonable expectation of privacy — restrooms, changing areas, medical settings, private residences — and recording there can be criminal regardless of any audio consent rule. Workplace recording may be further limited by employment law and by your employer’s own policy. If footage is meant to support a legal claim, an employment matter or an insurance dispute, how it was obtained will be scrutinized as closely as what it shows. Ask counsel before you record.
