SG Xtreme Life Smoke Detector Bottom View

This one looks straight down. Mounted on a ceiling it covers the area directly beneath it — a safe, a till, a cabinet, a specific doorway — from an angle nobody thinks to check. That vertical view is what separates it from the side-view model, and it is a decision to make before you buy rather than after. Battery and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.

Bottom view or side view? Decide before you buy

Bottom view — this unit. Looks vertically down at whatever sits beneath it. That makes it the choice for a fixed point of interest: a safe, a cash drawer, a stock or medication cupboard, a doorway you can mount above. It also gives you the largest faces of any ceiling position, because the subject is close and centred — provided they come to the spot you are watching.

Side view. Looks horizontally across the room instead, for when the question is about the room as a whole rather than one location in it.

Mount a bottom-view unit expecting room coverage and you will record the floor beautifully. The housings look identical from below; the lens direction is the whole choice.

Mount it where the thing is, not where the ceiling is convenient

Because the useful field is a cone directly below the unit, a foot or two of mounting offset can put the safe you meant to watch at the very edge of frame. Stand where the subject will be, look straight up, and mount at that point — not at the nearest joist.

A smoke-detector housing is not a smoke detector

No sensor, no alarm, ever. Fit it alongside working smoke alarms, never instead of one, and never in a position that removes required coverage. Most jurisdictions’ fire codes specify alarm count and placement; a dummy housing in an alarm’s position is a code violation and a genuine hazard.

More hidden cameras — Wi-Fi setup, battery planning, storage and the legal limits on placement are covered in full on the category page.
