The mains-powered wall clock: the same high-mounted, wide-coverage viewpoint as the battery model, running indefinitely on a hard-wired connection instead of a rechargeable cell. If the placement has to run for months without anyone going near it, that is the argument in one sentence.

Why hard-wired changes the placement, not just the power
A battery camera eventually needs someone to approach it. For a discreet installation that is the weak point — the moment of servicing is the moment of discovery, and it repeats on a schedule. Continuous power removes it entirely, along with the battery-versus-sensitivity compromise that shortens runtime, and the week it was flat that turns out to be the week that mattered.
What it costs you
Placement freedom. The unit must sit within reach of power and the cable run has to be plausible for the room. A cord climbing a wall to a clock defeats the concealment on sight; a unit above an existing outlet, or fed where wiring already runs, does not. Plan the cable route before choosing the position — reversing that order is how a good placement becomes an obvious one.
Height: wide coverage, small faces
A wall clock hangs above head height and looks down across the room, giving the widest view of any housing here and one that furniture cannot block. What it does not give is identification — faces are small and seen from above. If the question is who was it rather than what happened, the answer is a camera at seated eye level, not a higher-resolution one on the wall. And avoid the wall opposite a window: afternoon backlight turns anyone in front of the glass into a silhouette.
