An accessory for sweeps above 2 GHz
Near-field RF detectors ship with a general-purpose antenna that has to cover everything from VHF to Wi-Fi. That compromise costs range at the top of the band, which is exactly where modern transmitters live: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, LTE and most wireless cameras. A dedicated microwave antenna extends detection distance for those signals.
Usage with a bug detector
The MWA‐12 will increase detection distance of signals above 2GHz when used with a near‐field RF detector (also known as RF detector or bug detector). The reception will be improved for such signals as 3G, upper band 4G/LTE, WiFi 2.4GHz, Bluetooth, WiFi 5GHz, wireless cameras, etc. The RF device must have the SMA female connector. Otherwise the adapter should be used. Since the efficient range starts from 2 GHz, the signals with lower frequency will be omitted. Therefore repeat sweeping procedure with the standard antenna supplied with a near‐filed RF detector.

How it is used in a real sweep
This antenna is a second pass, not a replacement. Because its efficient range starts at 2 GHz, anything below that is invisible to it — so a sweep runs the standard antenna first across the full band, then repeats with the microwave antenna to extend reach on the high end. Skipping the first pass is how a 433 MHz transmitter gets missed.

Equipment is the smaller half of a sweep
Detection hardware finds transmitters that happen to be transmitting while you are standing there. A professional technical surveillance countermeasures sweep also covers physical search, wiring and telephone inspection, and a written report you can act on. If you suspect a real intrusion rather than testing your own gear, have it swept properly rather than relying on a handheld alone.
