Live viewing does not change the law. Video where a person reasonably expects privacy is off limits. Audio is stricter again: Arizona lets a party to a conversation record it, other states require everyone to consent, and recording a conversation you are not part of is generally illegal. Making it work in practice
It needs a network to stream, so test it on the actual Wi-Fi you will use rather than your office one. If the location has no reliable network, treat it as a recorder and pull the card afterwards. Battery is the usual limit on a fob this size, so charge fully, reduce how long you keep a live view open, and place it where the lens has an unobstructed line to the area you care about.
Handling the recording
Set the date and time before first use. Afterwards, copy files off the card and work only from the copy, keeping a note of who placed the device and when. Footage with no provenance is the most common reason self-collected evidence fails.
If the matter is serious enough to justify covert recording, it is usually serious enough to involve a licensed investigator — the evidence is collected in a form that holds up, and the legal exposure sits with someone trained to manage it.
