A key chain camera works because a bunch of keys is the one object nobody looks at twice. Set on a table, clipped to a belt, or held in a hand during a conversation, it reads as exactly what it appears to be. HD recording, a built-in DVR, one-button operation, and a vibration alert so you know it is running without looking.

- HD Resolution powers high quality covert recording
- Built-in DVR records high def video at the press of a button
- One button operation captures video or photographs instantly
- Vibration alert mode for covert activation
The vibration alert is the feature that matters
Every covert recorder has the same failure mode: you cannot check whether it is recording without revealing it. An LED is worse than useless — it is the single thing most likely to give a device away in a dim room. Haptic confirmation solves it. One press, a pulse against your hand or hip, and you know you are recording without looking down, without a sound, and without a light.
The corollary is that the second pulse matters just as much. Confirm the stop, or you will fill the card with the drive home.
Self-contained is the trade
Camera and DVR in one body means nothing to conceal beyond the object itself — no cable to route, no recorder in a pocket, no connector to work loose. That is what makes it usable at short notice, and it is why undercover officers and investigators carry this shape.
What you give up is control over framing. A body-worn button camera with a separate DVR can be aimed independently of where the housing sits; a key chain points wherever the keys are pointing. So place it deliberately: on a table with the lens facing the person, not flat; in a hand with the lens clear of your fingers. And get closer than feels necessary, because at ten feet you have a record that an interaction happened and at four feet you have a record of who was in it.
Before you rely on it
Check charge and free storage before you walk in — a self-contained device gives no warning when either runs out. Offload immediately afterwards; footage left on a device is footage that can be overwritten or lost with the keys. And test the framing once, from the position you will actually use, before it matters.
The legal frame
Arizona is a one-party consent state for audio under A.R.S. § 13-3005 — you may record a conversation you are a party to. Other states require every party to consent, and interstate conversations can pull the stricter rule in. Video carries a separate constraint: recording where a person has a reasonable expectation of privacy — restrooms, changing areas, medical settings, private residences — can be criminal regardless of the audio rule. If footage is meant for a legal matter, how it was obtained will be scrutinised as hard as what it shows. Ask counsel before, not after.
See more surveillance equipment, or private investigations if you would rather a licensed Arizona agency did the documenting.
