Panels only, and the “+” matters
This is the enhanced IIIA panel set, not a complete vest. Order it when you already own a carrier that fits and you are replacing expired panels, or when you want one panel set to move between carriers.
The difference from standard IIIA is spike and special-threat performance. Standard IIIA covers common handgun rounds, strikes and slashes. The enhanced version adds level 1 spike protection, which is the threat that actually shows up in corrections, hospital security, crowd work and transport — an improvised point, not a firearm — and is also rated against Liberty Civil Defense 9mm and FN 5.7×28 40gr.

Level IIIA+ Protection
Safe Life Defense IIIA+ armor reliably defends against: Liberty Civil Defense 9mm armor piercing ammunition and FN 5.7×28 40gr as well as common handgun rounds including .357, 9mm, 45acp, up to .44 magnum. Level IIIA+ armor provides additional protection against shotgun rounds including 00 buckshot, 12 ga slugs and even high velocity submachine gun rounds. Level IIIA+ is spike rated level 1 for protection up to 36 joules of stab force. In conjunction with Safe Life Defense’s Level IV rifle plate, this armor protects against rifle threats all the way up to .30-06.
Choosing between IIIA and IIIA+
If your officers work armed posts where a handgun is the realistic threat, standard IIIA is sound and cheaper. If they work close to people who may be searched, detained, distressed or intoxicated, the spike rating earns its cost. Match front, back and side panels to the same level; a IIIA+ front with nothing on the sides is a decision worth making deliberately rather than by accident.
Service life and records
Safe Life Defense warrants its ballistic panels for five years. Keep the panel serial numbers in your equipment records — for a licensed agency that record shows who carried which panel and when it was replaced, which matters after any incident.
Care
Wipe with a damp cloth and air dry flat. Never machine wash or tumble dry a ballistic panel, never fold it for storage, and retire any panel that has been soaked, struck or left in a hot vehicle for long stretches.

2 Year warranty on all carriers.
Incident Guarantee: Safe Life Defense stands behind its products and your personal protection. In the unfortunate event that you are shot while wearing your vest, Safe Life Defense will replace it at no cost as long as a police report is provided during your 5 year warranty.
