The gap under the arms

Front and back panels protect what a threat sees head-on. The sides — ribs, under the arms, the area a plate carrier leaves open — are where movement and cover geometry actually expose an officer. Side panels close that gap for very little weight.

These are the enhanced level IIIA+ panels: bullet, strike and slash protection like standard IIIA, plus level 1 spike protection up to 36 joules, and rated against Liberty Civil Defense 9mm and FN 5.7×28.

This Enhanced Multi-Threat armor comes with every feature of Safe Life Defense’s original Level IIIA armor (bullet, strike and slash protection), but is ENHANCED to provide level 1 spike protection (up to 36 joules of force) AND by defending against Liberty Civil Defense 9mm & FN 5.7×28! Safe Life Defense Level iiia+ Enhanced Multi-Threat is the ONLY soft body armor to achieve this level of advanced protection!

Fitting them

Sold as a pair, to be used with Safe Life Defense Tactical Side Straps (not included), which have 5″x7″ side armor pockets. Set them so they overlap the front panel slightly when the straps are tensioned — a gap that opens when the officer twists is the thing you are buying them to remove.

Match the level

Run side panels at the same threat level as the front and back. Mixing a IIIA+ front with plain IIIA sides is not wrong, but it should be a considered choice rather than an accident of ordering.

Care and replacement

Damp cloth only, air dry flat, never machine wash or fold. Log the serial numbers with the rest of the officer’s armor. Safe Life Defense warrants its ballistic panels and plates for five years.
