These are Safe Life Defense Flexible Rifle Armor (FRAS®) side panels, a pair of flexible side inserts that the manufacturer states protect against .223 and 5.56 rounds. They are made to replace heavy steel side plates, adding rifle-threat coverage at the sides of the torso in a lighter, flexible panel that moves with you.
What you get
- Two Flexible Rifle Armor side panels
- Designed for overlapping protection or extra coverage at the sides
- Safe Life Defense has offered this set with free side straps as a limited-time promotion, so the panels can be used with any of its vests, not only the tactical carrier. Ask us whether straps are included with your order.
Why flexible instead of steel
Steel side plates are heavy and rigid. They dig in when you sit, drive or bend, and they can throw fragments when struck. A flexible panel follows the shape of your body, which makes it easier to wear for a full shift. Always check the manufacturer’s test documentation for exactly which rounds a panel is rated to stop; ask us for Safe Life Defense’s FRAS testing information.
Choosing and fitting
- Side panels should overlap the edges of your front and back armor, not leave a gap.
- Fit the carrier so it is snug without restricting breathing or arm movement.
Care
Never soak or machine-wash ballistic panels. For odor, spray with Safe Life Defense Refresher, wait about 15 seconds and wipe dry. Store armor flat, away from heat and direct sunlight, and follow the care label on your armor.
Who can buy body armor
Federal law bars anyone convicted of a violent felony from owning body armor (18 U.S.C. § 931). Some states add their own rules, for example New York limits civilian purchases and Connecticut requires in-person sales. You are responsible for checking the law where you live. We ship within the United States only.
