How this compares to hard plates
Hard plates are still the answer for the highest rifle threats and for anyone who needs a specific NIJ rifle rating on paper for a contract. Flexible rifle armor trades that ceiling for coverage and comfort: it protects the sides that a plate leaves open, and it is light enough to wear for a full shift. Many teams run flexible panels as the daily standard and keep hard plates staged in the vehicle for escalation. The plate pockets in this carrier make that workable.
Fit and care
Measure chest and waist over the clothing you will wear underneath and order by the chart. The panel should cover from about two finger widths below the collarbone to the navel, with the side panels overlapping when the straps are set. Wipe panels clean and air dry flat; never machine wash or dry them. Store flat. Safe Life Defense warrants its ballistic panels and plates for five years.
Before you order
Possession of body armor is prohibited for anyone convicted of a violent felony under 18 U.S.C. § 931. If this is for a security contract, check whether the client or state licensing board specifies a threat level in writing before you choose. We size and spec armor for our own officers and are happy to walk through it with you.
