Firewalla Gold Pro: 10G Cyber Security Firewall & Router Protecting Your Family and Business

$929.00

How Does Firewalla Cyber Security Work? Firewalla’s main packet processing engine has four different stages: Deep Insight: Make sense of all network traffic.

Availability: 25 in stock (can be backordered)

The Firewalla Gold Pro is the 10-gigabit model, for networks where traffic between machines matters as much as the internet connection: offices moving large files to network storage, video-heavy security installs, or multi-gigabit fibre. It has the same protection features as the Gold Plus with far more throughput.

How Does Firewalla Cyber Security Work?

Firewalla’s main packet processing engine has four different stages:

  • Deep Insight: Make sense of all network traffic.  Dig deep and understand what they are.
  • Active Protect: Intrusion detection services to detect bad things and Intrusion prevention services to block before bad things happen.
  • Behavior analytics: See things from a different angle.
  • Control: This is where you tell us what to do.  Applying sophisticated rules to control traffic flows.

The top of the line, and who genuinely needs it

The Gold Pro is the 10-gigabit model. It is built for networks where the internal path matters as much as the internet path: an office moving large media or engineering files between workstations and network storage, a multi-tenant or multi-site environment, a video-heavy security installation, or a business on a multi-gigabit fibre connection that would otherwise be throttled by its own firewall.

It is also the model that gets bought unnecessarily. If your connection is a gigabit and your internal traffic is documents and email, a lower tier does the same security work for less money. The reason to step up here is throughput or port density, not features — and the honest test is whether you can name the traffic that needs it.

Inspected throughput, not headline speed

Every firewall quotes two performance stories: how fast it routes, and how fast it routes while inspecting. The second figure is the one that determines whether your protection survives contact with a real workload. Check the current specification above and match it to the speed you actually receive and to your peak internal transfer needs. A firewall that becomes a bottleneck is a firewall whose inspection gets switched off within a month.

At this tier, also plan the physical layer. Multi-gigabit links need cabling and optics that support them; a 10-gigabit port connected through aging copper will not deliver 10 gigabits, and the resulting troubleshooting usually ends at the patch panel rather than the firewall.

Multi-WAN and continuity

If the business cannot be offline, the Gold Pro’s port count makes a second internet connection practical. Configure failover so a primary outage moves traffic automatically, and test it deliberately — pull the primary link during a quiet hour and watch what actually happens, because an untested failover is a hypothesis rather than a plan. For some businesses load balancing across two links makes more sense than pure failover; decide which, rather than leaving it at the default.

Segmentation at scale

At this size, the VLAN design is the security design. A structure that holds up in most mid-sized deployments separates: workstations; servers and storage; unmanaged and IoT devices such as cameras, printers, badge readers and building systems; vendors and contractors; and guests. Each gets explicit rules about what it may reach, and the default between segments is deny.

The point of this work is blast radius. Ransomware that lands on a workstation and cannot reach the storage array or the camera network is an incident measured in hours. The same event on a flat network is measured in weeks and sometimes in closures. This is the single control with the largest difference between those two outcomes, and it is configuration rather than spend.

Operating it

A unit at this tier belongs to someone by name. Assign an owner, and give them a short recurring routine: review new devices weekly, check blocked-connection trends rather than individual events, apply firmware monthly, and audit the rule set and the VPN account list twice a year. Remove accounts for people who have left on the day they leave — dormant remote-access accounts are a standing feature of breach investigations.

Document every rule with one line of reasoning. In eighteen months, the rule whose purpose nobody remembers is the rule that never gets cleaned up and the rule that eventually causes an outage when someone finally removes it blind.

The boundaries that do not move with the tier

A more capable firewall does not change what a firewall is. It does not decrypt and read TLS traffic; it reasons from destination, reputation, volume and timing. It does not defend a laptop off the network, which is what endpoint detection is for. It does not defend a cloud identity, which is what multifactor authentication and conditional access are for. And it does not back anything up, which is what determines whether a ransomware event is survivable.

Organisations that buy the top firewall and skip those three layers are common, and they are over-represented in the incidents we are called into. Perimeter, endpoint, identity, recovery — in a business, all four or none of them really count.

Where to go from here

If this is part of a broader build-out, start by finding the weakest layer rather than the most expensive one. The free Cyber Risk Check takes a couple of minutes and returns a prioritised list; the Firewalla buyer’s guide sets this model against the rest of the range; and if you would rather someone else owned monitoring and response entirely, that is what managed security covers.
