The ruggedized button camera is the flat-lens, hard-use member of the BU-18NEO family: 2MP CMOS, 1080p, WDR, with a rugged twist-on connector and a set of button and bolt screw accessories so it can mount into a garment or a fixture. It works with the PV-500NEO-PRO recorder.

Flat lens versus cone: pick by mounting depth
This is the choice that decides whether a placement works. A flat lens sits flush with the mounting surface and conceals better, but it needs the aperture directly in front of it — it does not see through material thickness. A cone lens protrudes through the surface and tolerates depth, which suits a thicker garment or housing. The deciding factor is how much material sits between the camera and the scene, not which looks better on the bench.
Either way, the opening matters more than the lens. A pinhole behind mesh, fabric or tinted plastic loses far more light than people expect. Check the actual image from the actual position before you close anything up.
What “ruggedized” and WDR are buying you
The rugged twist-on connector is the part that fails first on covert kit. A camera on a garment is flexed, sat on, pulled and re-seated every shift, and a loose or intermittent connector produces footage that drops out at the worst moment. A positive twist-lock is the difference between equipment that survives a deployment cycle and equipment that becomes unreliable in a month.
Wide dynamic range is the specification that decides whether indoor covert footage is usable at all. The classic failure is a subject standing in front of a window or a bright doorway, who records as a silhouette against a blown-out background. WDR captures bright and dark parts of the frame separately and combines them, so the face stays readable. Covert video lives in exactly that lighting situation, which is why WDR matters more than raw resolution.
Mounting and audio
The button and bolt screw accessories let the camera present as an actual fastener rather than an addition — a button on a placket, a bolt head in a fixture. Aim with your torso if it is worn: the lens points where your chest points, so turning only your head puts the subject out of frame.
Audio runs through an external microphone rather than a built-in one, which is a real advantage — you can place the microphone where the sound is instead of where the camera has to be, and a microphone away from rustling fabric records speech instead of clothing noise. USB connection handles data off the recorder.
The legal frame
Arizona is a one-party consent state for audio under A.R.S. § 13-3005 — you may record a conversation you are party to. Other states require every party to consent, and interstate conversations can pull the stricter rule in. Video adds its own constraint: recording where a person has a reasonable expectation of privacy — restrooms, changing areas, medical settings, private residences — can be criminal regardless of the audio rule, and workplace recording may be further limited by employment law. If footage is meant for a legal matter, how it was obtained will be scrutinized as hard as what it shows.
