Other Gear & Accessories
The supporting kit: belts, pouches, straps, bags and the small parts that decide whether the rest of the equipment gets carried, stays where it was put, and survives a shift.
Why accessories fail. Retention loosens, hook-and-loop goes soft after repeated washing, and a pouch that rattles gets left in the locker. Buy for the duty cycle rather than the range day, and inspect retention hardware whenever the carrier is washed.
Belts and load. A loaded duty belt puts weight on the hips and lower back for the whole shift. A two-layer belt system — an under belt through the trouser loops, interlocking with the outer belt along its full length — stops the sag and the rolling that keepers never quite fix. Moving radio, light and spare magazine onto a carrier instead of the belt spreads the load further still.
Storage. Armor is more often ruined between shifts than during them: folded into a duffel, left in a hot vehicle, or stuffed behind a seat. A padded bag that keeps panels flat costs less than a replacement panel and adds years to one.
Care. Remove ballistic panels before washing anything. Wash carriers and straps alone, air dry, no heat — heat is what kills hook-and-loop and strap elastic.
Standardising kit across a team is worth doing once, in writing. We can help you draft that standard.
