When you need access control and security system installation

Access control and security system installation is the design, installation and commissioning of the equipment that decides who gets into a building and records what happens there: credential readers, electrified door hardware, cameras, intrusion alarms and gate intercoms. Honeybadger Solutions handles the security side of that work. We assess the site, design the system, coordinate the project and connect the finished system to the people who respond to it. The installation itself is performed by our licensed Arizona Registrar of Contractors (ROC) contractor partner. This page covers the project side of our security systems and technology work, and it is available in Arizona only.

Common reasons clients call:

  • Keys are everywhere and nobody knows who still has one
  • A camera system that records but cannot identify a face or a plate
  • An old alarm panel with no one assigned to answer it
  • A new building, tenant improvement or gate that needs entry control
  • A federal contract that requires compliant camera and network equipment

What we cover

Access control

Card, fob, PIN and mobile credentials, electrified locks, strikes and exit devices, door position sensors, schedules and role-based access groups, plus visitor management for lobbies, docks and gates.

Video surveillance and CCTV

Cameras placed for a defined job, whether that is overview, identification or plate capture, with storage sized to how long you must keep footage and an export process staff can actually use.

Intrusion alarms

Door and window contacts, motion and glass-break detection, panic and duress buttons, and zones planned around how the building is really used after hours.

Intercom and gate entry

Video intercoms at doors and vehicle gates, call routing to staff or a monitoring operator, and gate operators tied to the access system.

Who does what

Every project has two parts. You will always know which party is responsible for each one.

How it works

  1. Request online. Tell us the site, the doors and gates, what you already have and what keeps going wrong.
  2. Assessment. We walk the site, test existing equipment and decide what to keep, replace or remove.
  3. Design and written proposal. Door schedule, camera views, alarm zones, network needs and response plan, with the partner’s license details so you can check them before you sign.
  4. Installation. The system is installed by our licensed partner. We coordinate access, scheduling and other trades so the work fits your operations.
  5. Commissioning. Every door, camera and alarm point is tested against the design. Fire alarm interfaces are tested with the fire alarm contractor.
  6. Integration and handover. Alarms and cameras are connected to remote guarding operators and alarm response and dispatch where you want them. You receive as-built documents, owner-held admin credentials and staff training.
  7. Support. Health checks, credential audits and changes as your site grows.

Standards and Arizona rules

  • Contractor licensing. In Arizona, low-voltage security work falls under ROC license classifications for low voltage communication systems: C-67 for commercial work, R-67 for residential work and CR-67 for both. The R-67 scope covers alarm, intercom and video systems, along with other low-voltage systems.
  • Alarm business and agent certification. Under A.R.S. 32-122.05, an alarm business may not operate until it and each controlling person are certified by the Arizona Board of Technical Registration. A.R.S. 32-122.06 requires every alarm agent who installs, services or sells alarm systems for an alarm business to hold an alarm agent certification, backed by a fingerprint clearance card. A.R.S. 32-121 sets the narrow conditions under which alarms may be installed while those applications are pending. Fire alarm systems are excluded from the alarm business definition in A.R.S. 32-101.
  • Alarm user permits. Many Arizona cities also require the alarm user to hold a permit. In Phoenix, City Code Sec. 10-86.01 requires every alarm subscriber to obtain an alarm subscriber permit, from the Police Department for intrusion alarms and the Fire Department for fire alarms, within ten days of installation. Other cities set their own rules, and we check them during design.
  • UL 294. The UL standard for access control system units. The model codes require electromagnetic locks on egress doors to be listed to UL 294 or UL 1034, so we specify listed hardware.
  • Free egress. Electrified locks must still let people out. The International Building Code (Section 1010, including the door hardware release and sensor release provisions) and NFPA 101 (Section 7.2.1.6) set those rules. The local fire marshal has the final say.
  • NFPA 72. Fire alarm systems follow NFPA 72 and are designed and installed by licensed fire alarm contractors. Where doors must unlock on fire alarm, we coordinate the interface with them. We do not design fire alarm systems.
  • Federal work. Section 889 of the FY2019 National Defense Authorization Act, implemented in FAR 52.204-25, bars covered telecommunications and video surveillance equipment from federal contracts, including Huawei, ZTE, Hytera, Hikvision and Dahua products and their affiliates. We specify compliant equipment when your contract requires it.

Checklist before you sign any installation proposal

  • The installing contractor’s ROC license number and classification are on the proposal, and you checked them
  • Alarm work is done by a certified alarm business and certified alarm agents
  • Each electrified door shows its fail-safe or fail-secure setting and how people get out
  • Camera views are listed by purpose, not just by count
  • Storage length matches your retention policy
  • You will own the admin accounts, and default passwords will be changed
  • Someone is named to answer every alarm, day and night

Who this is for

  • Offices, warehouses and industrial sites in Arizona
  • Property managers adding gates and door access
  • Federal contractors that need NDAA-compliant equipment
  • Clinics, schools and houses of worship
  • Cannabis, retail and other regulated operations
  • Clients already using Honeybadger officers or patrol

How it is priced

We do not list prices. Door count, camera views, cabling distance, storage and monitoring all change the scope. You receive written quotes before any work starts. Installation work is performed and contracted by our licensed Arizona ROC contractor partner. Honeybadger Solutions LLC is not a licensed contractor.

Frequently asked questions

Does Honeybadger install the system itself?

No. The system is installed by our licensed Arizona ROC contractor partner, who contracts the installation with you. We handle assessment, design, coordination, integration with response and support.

Do you offer installation outside Arizona?

No. This service is Arizona only. For sites in other states, we can still assess risk and help write requirements for a local licensed installer.

Can you keep the equipment we already have?

Often, yes. We test what is there and keep anything that still does its job and can be secured. Unsupported or non-compliant devices are flagged in writing.

Will electrified locks trap people in an emergency?

They must not. Designs follow free-egress requirements in the building and life safety codes, and the local fire marshal reviews them where required.

Can the system connect to your officers and monitoring?

Yes. That is the point of designing it with us. Alarms and cameras can feed remote guarding operators, alarm response and patrol, with a written escalation plan.
